The Book Club

I found writing my book was a deeply personal and solitary journey. Hours and hours and hours of sitting alone, living out the plot in my head, and writing endless drafts. The process was long and for a great deal of that time doubt was my only companion,. I had no wish beyond the wild dream of getting published and holding a book in my hands. It had certainly never crossed my mind to think about what happens after publication and that I would be expected to discuss my book with people who had read it. I am quite sure that had I thought about exposing my ideas to scruitny I would have been completely crippled with fear.

.

So, it was with some trepidation that I took up an invitation to join the wonderful women of Wing Book Group for their monthly Thursday night get-together. On a beautiful warm summer's evening, with wine snacks and much laughter, they gently grilled me on plot, characters, historical accuracy and then, plied with more wine, persuaded me to talk about my next project. Their questions were brilliant, fascinating and diverse and I can honestly say it was a wonderful experience.

The fear of judgement remains strong and, while it could easily become a reason for procrastination and even abandonment of my next project, I found stepping out of my comfort zone on this occasion to be highly motivating. Thank you Wing Book Group!
